I want to paint the concrete around my pool. What type of paint should be rolled on? Procedures?

Check with the people at Sherwin-Williams paint. They are a big company, and know what's what with paint. They will not give you bad advice. I worked with S.W. when I was running a paint shop, and they always did a great job. If there is not one in your area, call there store someplace else. They will help.

I am not associated with SM myself, I have just worked with them and they are great.

Ace Hardware has a new line of concrete paint. I would also put down a sealer first after cleaning the concrete real good. Ask the sales person the details.I want to paint the concrete around my pool. What type of paint should be rolled on? Procedures?
I would use a paint specifically designed for concrete for a couple of reasons: Maintenance and safety. Concrete paint absorbs into the concrete so it won't form a ';skin'; on top like regular exterior paints.

Exterior paint even though it's designed for outdoor use, will peel and flake off, and you will find yourself doing touch ups or a complete redo within a couple seasons, if not sooner. It also allows water to sit on top, or puddle, making the area around the pool more slippery...you would have to add sand for traction, and that not only doesn't feel good under the feet, it's a pain in the bum to sweep.

As for the procedures, you clear the area to be painted, make sure that it is clean with no grease and is swept well. Be sure to read the directions on the can. Some products might want the concrete to be ';etched'; which means applying an acid to make sure that the cement is clean /more porous and able to accept the product for the best application.

Don't cheat on the prep work. The better it's done, the better your results will look and last.
Why Paint it.I suuggest Kool Seal.Like one post states paint will be mantance is very hot. Here is a link use You'll be glad you did.
Why do you want to paint it? I can think of all kinds of reasons not to.

Once you paint it you will have continual maintenance year after year.

Paint will be more slick

Paint peels

Paint could be hotter on bare feet

If you want to change the look - I suggest you look into concrete stain. A stain will not peel. Will not require maintenance and will not be any slicker than the concrete currently is.

There are pro companies that do this. DIY may also be an option but it cant be undone. Go ahead and google ';Concrete Staining'; and see what you come up with. Here is one I found and like (no affiliation)

You'll need a special concrete/deck paint. Preparation of the surface is important for any good paint job, but is especially so for outdoor concrete. Don't skip or fudge on any of the steps listed in the directions for the paint. You will need to clean the surface thoroughly, possibly by pressure washing. If the concrete is very smooth, you might need to apply an acid wash to make it slightly porous to grip the paint so it grips the paint better. Applying the paint, usually with a roller, is often the easiest part of the job.
