What is the best way to paint concrete walls?

We have concrete walls in our garage that have rough spots on them. I'm not sure how to get rid of the rough spots or should I just paint right over them? What kind of paint would work best?

Thanks! What is the best way to paint concrete walls?
I could think of more pressing concerns than that but here it goes.

The rough spots could be what we call rock pockets,or there are seems where the forms come together.Depends on the form system used, wood, metal, aluminum.

There is a diamond grinding wheel we use for repair work that fits a 4 1/2'; grinder. After grinding should there be any repair work you wish to do try the second link.

As for paint?.They epoxy based paint is a long lasting paint, floor paint has excellent bonding characteristics as well.I'm not a big fan of latex paints on concrete, but sometimes necessary.A good bet would be an ace hardware store.

A personal note: Don't make the typical homeowner mistakes, cutting corners. You can of course over spend, doing it right the first time must mean something.

the rough spots could be excess mortar.....try using a old flat screw driver and hammer and tap it off.....as far as painting...use laytex paint, no need to prime, 2 coats..mask off the floor to avoid drips.....

I think using a roller would be best. A latex paint would work fine.
